THINGS TO DO IN THE AREA
The world renowned Kruger National Park is one of the world’s best-loved wildlife destinations. It is home to the iconic BIG5 animals (Rhino, Leopard, Elephant, Buffalo and Lion). In addition, it’s a birder’s paradise as home to more than 500 dazzling bird species!
Professional guided safaris and self-drive options are available, and our location offers guests access from 2 gates – Crocodile Bridge Gate (+/- 20 minute drive) and Malelane Gate (+/-45 minutes).
Visiting The Kruger is a MUST!
Mozambique is a diverse country and it’s capital city, Maputo, is a treasure trove of history, culture, world-renowned architecture, museums, beautiful beaches and mouth-watering seafood and Portuguese cuisine.
Top sights include one of the world’s most beautiful (and oldest) working stations, the central market (more than a century old) – it’s the perfect place to buy anything from fresh seafood and fruit and vegetables, to baskets and curios.
The old fort, the botanical gardens, stunning churches and cathedrals and even the Casa de Ferro (iron house) – an Eiffel design made in Belgium, would also be worthy stops on your itinerary. Of course, you could also just relax on the beach and feast on fresh seafood:-).
Swaziland, or the Kingdom of Eswatini as it is known, is a tiny, land locked country. Known for its beautiful people and their warm hospitality and creativity, this is a day trip that will also make keen shoppers (or should that read treasure hunters?-), very happy!
Stops often include the Ngwenya Glass Blowing Factory, which is world famous for it’s beautiful craftsmanship that is widely exported. Here, you can have a bird’s eye view of the furnaces and the artists who create stunning pieces from 100% recycled glass that is collected by Swazis all around their country, specifically for this purpose.
The Candle factory is a favorite too – you can watch the candle makers in action and buy their work on site before it hits the global export route. Of course, the day simply wouldn’t be perfect without visiting the cultural village , where you can enjoy dancing, a tour of traditional structures, get cultural insights and even delicious local meals.
The Sudwala Caves are widely believed to be the oldest caves on earth!
The caves are staggering in their beauty and size and the amphitheater cavern is awe-inspiring, with its capacity to accommodate 500 people.
A visit to the Sudwala caves is an almost sacred experience, during white professional guides share amazing facts about the local rock types, some of the amazing formations and the exciting history of the caves. It’s a fun excursion for the whole family.
Any serious fishing enthusiast will tell you that catching a Tiger Fish is a serious feather in your fishing cap!
These legendary fresh water game fish are known for their almost supernatural fighting ability… Brawn is just not enough – landing a Tiger Fish requires your brains and muscles working together.
They can only be caught in 2 places in South Africa – one of which is easily accessible from Marnies Bush Hideout. It’s a fun (and according to most fishing enthusiasts, bucket-list worthy) adventure for the whole family. N.B. Catch and release is practised locally.
Our location offers avid golfers a wide choice of top courses! Leopard Creek in Malelane, Kambaku in Komatipoort, and of course, the Skukuza Golf Course in Kruger Park, where your game is sure to be wild!-)
